Clean technology
As part of Canada's largest province in clean technology, Montréal is a world-class cleantech hub and home to numerous international companies in the industry. Montréal boasts solid expertise in many cleantech subsectors such as electric transportation and sustainable mobility, hydroelectricity, agri-food technologies and artificial intelligence for sustainability.

A renowned centre of expertise
A Canadian research hub with many major laboratories, Montréal is an innovator in sustainable mobility, water treatment and purification, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and the reclaiming of residual materials. The majority of the province’s over 200 research groups operate in the Montréal metropolitan area.
An ecosystem that fosters innovation
Québec and Greater Montréal provide fertile ground for developing state-of-the-art solutions, thanks to leading hydroelectric expertise as well as a critical mass of engineering consultants and top-quality engineers and technicians.
All three levels of government—municipal, provincial and federal—help foster an environment that is conducive to clean tech innovation. Montréal’s dynamic and diverse ecosystem is made up of R&D centres, industry organizations, venture capital accelerators and international organizations that share the common goal of developing more sustainable technologies.
Easier access to financing
In Greater Montréal, clean technology companies can access venture capital funds earmarked for the sector. The federal government has announced $3G to support the development of clean tech and ecological transition, while Quebec’s provincial government has unveiled a $1.4B strategic plan until 2030 for the same purpose.
