The UCI Road World Championships Montréal 2026 will make history

Big news for the Montréal sports community! In September 2026, Montréal will be hosting the UCI Road World Championships. Organized by the promoter of the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal, with additional support from Cycling Canada, the race will take place from September 20 to 27 next year. And the date is significant: this cycling competition will be among several major events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the biggest sports event in the history of the city, the 1976 Summer Olympics.
It’s going to be a massive year for Montréal.
Making history all over again
This is the second time Montréal has hosted the UCI Road World Championships. We hosted the first ever edition of the championships that took place outside Europe — the now legendary Mount Royal circuit of 1974.
In homage to that route, the 2026 edition promises to amaze: the two Elite Road Races will start in Montérégie, in Brossard, before passing through seven other municipalities in the region to reach the final Mont-Royal circuit via the Champlain Bridge. Our beautiful Mount Royal Park will be celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2026 — what a wonderful way to mark the occasion.
Riders will face several major challenges along the way: Camillien-Houde Road (2.3 km at an average of 6.2% ascension), the Polytechnique hill with sections exceeding 11%, and the false flat on Parc Avenue, the shared finishing stretch for all 13 events scheduled over eight days.
For the time trials, Men and Women Elite will share the same 39.9-km circuit around Montréal. This route will notably pass by Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and Parc Jean-Drapeau, before crossing De la Concorde Bridge to reach the heart of the metropolis.

Number that impress
The 2026 event will consist of six time-trials and five road races, featuring 1,000 athletes in the junior, U23, and elite events. More than 250,000 spectators are expected to watch athletes from more than 80 countries competing in 13 distinct challenges. Over 800 different international media will be covering the event.
Dating back to 1921, this annual world championship for bicycle road racing are located in a different city or region every year. We're honoured to be part of that history for the second time.
